Right now, emerging successfully from the current economic downturn is the priority for all businesses, be they global corporate, UK market focused, public or private. Improving performance, shareholder value and competitive edge are more important now than they have ever been - and that much harder to get right. It’s a tough market. Capital, at the right price, is not in ready supply. It is more challenging now, than ever before, to forecast the future with any high degree of confidence.
In this section we shine a light on two key areas which are critical that businesses get right: performance improvement and major transformations.
Practical Performance Improvement
For most businesses the next decade will demand rigorous management of costs and liquidity. But now is also the time to be planning for recovery – a process that is already evident in the developing regions, parts of BRIC and Asia Pac.
At Blueground we have lived and worked through several recessions and we are familiar with the challenges that occur at low points in the economic cycle. In the past few months we have drawn on our collective experience to re-invigorate business approaches to improving performance that we know will work well in the current market conditions and beyond. These are aimed at simultaneously helping our clients to deal with the aftermath of recession and to refocus on growth, and to agree the best use of innovation and technology.
Blueground Partners are engaged in the radical reshaping of industries, and in some cases the creation of new ones. So if you face these sorts of challenges, we offer the Boardroom pragmatic advice – performance improvement drawn from deep experience.

Successful Transformation Programmes
All major organisations are faced with undertaking major business change programmes enabled by technology to improve their performance and competitive edge.
The problem is that these can often be complex, expensive and time consuming initiatives that do not bring the substantive rewards originally expected. Very often they cost much more than envisaged, do not deliver the anticipated change, and take much longer to complete. Failure takes many forms. Typically it stems from weaknesses in how the project was established and how it was executed.
Each of our team has over 20 years experience in major transformation project delivery. We have acted as consultants on these projects but also, crucially, taken direct P&L responsibility at Board level and as senior line managers. So we know, from the blood on our hands, what works and what doesn’t. We know how to do the trade-offs between the pragmatic and the ideal. And we know how to avoid costly mistakes. Our approach is simple in concept and highly effective in execution. If ever there was need for "Right First Time", this is it.

Professional Services
The Professional Services market is very broad, encompassing businesses as diverse as accountancy, law, engineering, recruitment & media. What’s common to many is that their services are delivered through complex organisations and they face similar issues. These issues include growth, access to capital, governance & leadership, go-to-market strategy, cost control and technology service improvements.
Our team has firsthand experience of leading professional service businesses and functions through periods of significant change and pressure. This market has faced legislative constraints and freedoms, professional scrutiny, changes in how people buy services and increasing competition – and we have successfully embraced these challenges. Whether the issue is accelerating revenue growth, increasing market share, penetrating new markets or post acquisition integration, or a combination of these and more, we provide relevant, no-nonsense expertise designed to build capability in our clients’ organisations and to realise the hidden value.
Following our work in the Legal Sector, we have developed a point of view on the future of the UK’s leading law firms.
